A child’s nervous system, kidneys, and liver are still developing during the first decade of life. This means toxic exposures that an adult might metabolize relatively quickly can accumulate more readily in a child’s tissues and affect neurological development.
Conventional pediatric dentistry has historically used two substances that biological dentists avoid entirely: mercury amalgam fillings and systemic fluoride treatments. Neither is appropriate for children, in our view, and neither is necessary given the alternatives available today.
At Rite Dentist, we treat children using the same biocompatible standards we apply to adults: no mercury, no unnecessary chemical exposures, and materials that support rather than disrupt the body’s natural processes.
We designed our children’s visits to be calm, unhurried, and free from the sensory overload that makes kids anxious about dentistry. Here is what a typical first visit covers:
A full-mouth assessment using safe imaging. We use digital X-rays when clinically necessary, which reduce radiation exposure by up to 90% compared to traditional film X-rays. We limit X-rays based on actual clinical need rather than a fixed interval schedule.
Diet and nutrition conversation. The foods children eat directly shape the pH environment in their mouths and the mineral density of developing enamel. We talk with parents about practical, specific dietary patterns that protect teeth rather than reciting generic advice to reduce sugar.
Early bite and jaw development screening. Airway-focused dentistry starts young. We look at how the palate is developing, whether there are signs of mouth breathing, and whether early intervention could prevent orthodontic or sleep issues later.
Biocompatible cavity repair if needed. If a child has a cavity, we repair it with composite resin or glass ionomer materials tested for biocompatibility. No amalgam. No mercury. The filling matches the tooth and does not release vapor during normal chewing.
The choices made in childhood dental care echo for a lifetime. Book a gentle, mercury-free holistic dental visit for your child at Rite Dentist in Los Angeles.
