How often should I get a professional cleaning?
Every six months is the standard recommendation for patients with healthy gums. If you have a history of gum disease, smoke, or have other risk factors, we may recommend cleanings every three to four months to stay ahead of active inflammation. We'll assess your gum health at each visit and adjust as needed.
Do you use fluoride during cleanings?
We offer fluoride-free polishing options for patients who prefer them. Simply let us know when you book or at the start of your appointment. We respect your choices and will never pressure you into accepting any product you're not comfortable with.
What is the difference between a regular cleaning and a deep cleaning?
A regular prophylaxis cleaning removes plaque and tartar from the surfaces of your teeth and just below the gumline in healthy or mildly inflamed gums. A deep cleaning — known as scaling and root planing — goes further beneath the gumline to remove deposits from the root surfaces and smooth them to discourage bacteria from reattaching. Deep cleanings are recommended when gum pockets are significantly deeper than healthy ranges.
Can I get a cleaning if I have sensitive teeth?
Yes. Sensitivity is very common, and our hygienists are skilled at working gently with patients who experience discomfort.
