Sedation Dentist in Valley Village, CA
You deserve dental care without fear. Dr. Babrood, DDS, FICD takes dental anxiety seriously — offering a calm environment and sedation options designed to help you get the care you’ve been avoiding. Call 818-766-7776.
Approximately 36 percent of Americans experience dental anxiety, and 12 percent have dental phobia severe enough to cause complete avoidance of care. The consequences go beyond teeth — untreated cavities become root canals, gingivitis becomes periodontitis, and missed diagnoses become systemic health problems. Dental anxiety is not a character flaw. It’s a documented psychological response that deserves a compassionate, clinical solution.
At Rite Dentist, we’ve built an environment specifically designed to reduce anxiety — unhurried appointments, clear communication, aromatherapy, and sedation options for patients who need an additional layer of calm.
Sedation Options at Rite Dentist
Nitrous oxide (laughing gas)
The mildest and most commonly used form of dental sedation. Nitrous oxide is inhaled through a small mask placed over your nose. It produces a sense of warmth, relaxation, and mild euphoria within minutes. You remain fully conscious and responsive, but anxiety and discomfort are significantly reduced. The effects wear off completely within minutes of removing the mask, allowing you to drive yourself home.
Best for: Mild to moderate anxiety, short procedures, patients who want minimal sedation.
Oral sedation (anti-anxiety medication)
A prescription anti-anxiety medication taken by mouth approximately one hour before your appointment. Oral sedation produces a deeper state of relaxation than nitrous oxide. Most patients remain conscious but feel drowsy and have little to no memory of the procedure. You will need a driver. Dr. Babrood selects the appropriate medication based on your health history and anxiety level.
Best for: Moderate to severe anxiety, longer procedures, patients with strong gag reflex.
Combined sedation
For patients with significant anxiety or complex procedures, nitrous oxide and oral sedation can be used together for deeper, more consistent relaxation.
You Don’t Have to Explain Your Anxiety
Patients often feel embarrassed disclosing dental fear. At Rite Dentist, there is no judgment. Dr. Babrood — a Fellow of the International College of Dentistry, USC trained, and a board member of the San Fernando Valley Dental Society — understands that anxiety is physiological, not personal. Every sedation consultation is private, thorough, and pressure-free.

Why Choose Rite Dentist for Sedation Dentistry?
Dr. Babrood, DDS, FICD brings something rare to sedation dentistry: a genuine understanding of the anxiety-health cycle. She is a Fellow of the International College of Dentistry, one of dentistry’s highest peer-recognized honors (12,000+ fellows across 140 countries, invitation-only since 1920), a USC Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry graduate, IAOMT certified, and a San Fernando Valley Dental Society board member. Her whole-body philosophy means sedation is always paired with genuine therapeutic communication — not just medication.
“Getting patients through the door is the first treatment. Everything else follows from there.”
Frequently Asked Questions
What sedation options are available for dental anxiety?
Rite Dentist offers nitrous oxide (laughing gas), oral sedation (anti-anxiety medication taken before your appointment), and combined sedation for deeper relaxation. Dr. Babrood selects the appropriate option based on your anxiety level, health history, and the procedure being performed. All sedation options are discussed in detail during a pre-appointment consultation.
Is dental sedation safe?
Yes. Dental sedation is safe when properly administered by a trained provider. Nitrous oxide has an excellent safety record and no lingering effects — you can drive yourself home afterward. Oral sedation requires a driver and a brief recovery period. Dr. Babrood reviews your complete health history before recommending any sedation option.
Will I be unconscious during dental sedation?
No — dental sedation at Rite Dentist does not render you unconscious. Nitrous oxide produces relaxation while you remain fully alert. Oral sedation produces drowsiness, and many patients have limited memory of the procedure, but you can respond to questions and instructions throughout. General anesthesia (unconsciousness) is not offered at this practice.
Can I request sedation for a routine cleaning?
Yes. If dental anxiety affects your ability to tolerate routine care — even cleanings and exams — sedation is appropriate. Many patients with significant anxiety choose sedation for all dental visits. We will not judge your anxiety level or suggest you should “just push through it.”
Do I need someone to drive me after sedation?
Nitrous oxide wears off within minutes and does not require a driver. Oral sedation does require a responsible adult to drive you home and stay with you for a few hours after your appointment, as the medication’s effects linger. We confirm this logistics detail during your pre-appointment consultation.
